# DPDK Patch Review

## Patch: net/i40e: fix compile issue in raw parsing

### ERRORS

None

### WARNINGS

**1. Missing Documentation**

This patch modifies code in a PMD driver but does not include corresponding updates to the release notes as required by the guidelines.

**Recommendation:**
Add a release note entry in `doc/guides/rel_notes/release_XX_YY.rst` (where XX_YY is the current release version) under the "Fixed Issues" section:

```rst
* **net/i40e: Fixed type mismatch in FDIR raw parsing**
  Fixed a type mismatch where an enum was incorrectly used for indexing
  when comparing against a uint8_t RAW ID during FDIR raw item parsing.
```

### INFO

**1. Correctness of the fix**

The patch correctly addresses a type mismatch. The code iterates over previously parsed RAW items using `raw_id` which is obtained from `fdir_filter->input.flow_ext.raw_id`.

Looking at the type of that field, it should be `uint8_t` (based on the context that it's compared against `raw_spec->relative` which is also meant to be a small integer index). Using `enum i40e_flxpld_layer_idx` for a variable that holds a RAW ID counter is indeed incorrect - enums are for distinct named values, not iteration indices.

The change from `enum i40e_flxpld_layer_idx` to `uint8_t` for the `raw_id` variable in both functions is appropriate.

**2. Scope**

The fix is minimal and focused - it only changes the local variable type declarations in two functions, which is exactly what's needed to fix the type mismatch issue.

**3. Consistency**

Note that `layer_idx` on line 935 remains as `enum i40e_flxpld_layer_idx`, which is correct since it actually holds an enum value from that type (it comes from `fdir_filter->input.flow_ext.layer_idx` which should be of that enum type).
